I’ve made my own Hollywood mirror – well, if you can’t feel like a star in your own home, when can you, eh?! It took a bit of planning to get the right size of fairy light bulbs for the mirror frame, and to the find the correct diameter drill bit to cut out the holes, but we got there in the end!
Below is a photo of what the mirror looked like before… I picked it up for a couple of pounds at a carboot sale earlier this year. Even though it was originally one of those mirror that sit on a dressing table stand (the dressing table was nowhere to be seen) I knew I could do something with it. It was the thick wooden frame and bevelled edge mirror that attracted me to it.
I sanded, drilled, painted and glued the frame until it began to resemble a Hollywood mirror. The fairy lights are rechargeable solar lights for the garden, so they don’t even use any power to light up my mirror – I just keep the solar cell on the windowsill to absorb the sunlight.
I kept my fingers crossed as I sent the step-by-step photos over to Reloved magazine and was delighted when the editor was happy to use it in the October Issue! Issue 47 is on sale now, so you can see the full tutorial for this project on page 71.
