I’ve made my own Hollywood mirror – well, if you can’t feel like a star in your own home, when can you, eh?! It took a bit of planning to get the right size of fairy light bulbs for the mirror frame, and to the find the correct diameter drill bit to cut out the holes, but we got there in the end!Below is a photo of what the mirror looked like before… I picked it up for a couple of pounds at a carboot sale earlier this year. Even though it was originally one of those mirror that sit on a dressing table stand (the dressing table was nowhere to be seen) I knew I could do something with it. It was the thick wooden frame and bevelled edge mirror that attracted me to it.I sanded, drilled, painted and glued the frame until it began to resemble a Hollywood mirror. The fairy lights are rechargeable solar lights for the garden, so they don’t even use any power to light up my mirror – I just keep the solar cell on the windowsill to absorb the sunlight.I kept my fingers crossed as I sent the step-by-step photos over to Reloved magazine and was delighted when the editor was happy to use it in the October Issue! Issue 47 is on sale now, so you can see the full tutorial for this project on page 71.Reloved is available to buy online, or from shops such as WH Smith, independent newsagents and supermarkets. This month’s edition has a very thought-provoking article about container homes/offices, and I’m sure that my husband now wants to get a container to convert – watch this space! Also, I interviewed my Instagram friend Claire from Pillar Box Blue blog in the magazine, so there’s plenty of photos of her fantastic upcycled home to oggle at in this month’s Reloved too. If you’ve missed the October Issue, back issues of Reloved can be ordered online.
